As the House of Representatives convened for its plenary session, tensions were already high between Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila and Deputy Speaker Ahmed Wase. The upcoming election for the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the 10th House had caused a rift between the two, with Gbajabiamila endorsing Tajudeen Abbas and Benjamin Kalu for the positions, while Wase had his sights set on the Speaker's seat.

As the session progressed, Gbajabiamila began to speak, but was interrupted by Wase, who challenged the Speaker's recommendation. Gbajabiamila, visibly taken aback, addressed the House, stating, "Mr Deputy Speaker, this is the first time in history that a Deputy Speaker will be challenging what the Speaker is saying. I have been in this House for many years, perhaps even longer than anybody here."

The tension in the chamber was palpable as the two leaders engaged in a heated exchange. Wase, a member of the G-7, a group of aspirants who were aggrieved with the leadership zoning formula of the APC, was determined to run against the party's chosen candidate, and his challenge to the Speaker's recommendation was a clear indication of his intentions.

As the session came to a close, the rift between Gbajabiamila and Wase remained unresolved, and the upcoming election for the Speaker and Deputy Speaker promised to be a contentious affair. The House of Representatives was left to wonder what the future held for its leadership, and whether the divide between the Speaker and Deputy Speaker could be bridged.
