NORTH EAST PEOPLE'S SOLIDARITY FRONT APPEALS TO PRESIDENTIAL TINUBU FOR APPOINTMENT OF AUDITOR GENERAL FROM NORTH-EAST
The North East Peoples Solidarity Front (NEPSF) has made an appeal to President Bola Tinubu to appoint a new Auditor General for the Federation from the North-East geo-political zone. NEPSF, in a statement jointly signed by President Comrade Gabriel Michi and Secretary Comrade Mahmood Rufai, expressed concern over the lack of representation from the North-East in the position throughout the nation's history.
While acknowledging that the recruitment process for the position of Auditor General for the Federation was fair and transparent, NEPSF argued that the North-East has been overlooked for the role since the country gained independence. According to historical data presented by the group, the office has been held by individuals from the South-West, South-East, South-South, and North-Central regions, but none from the North-East or North-West.
NEPSF also highlighted that the recently appointed Accountant General of the Federation is from the South-West, further emphasizing the need for representation from the North-East in the position of Auditor General. The group called on President Tinubu to intervene in the recruitment process to prevent any undue influence and manipulation by certain vested interests.
The NEPSF has urged the President's approval and submission of the name of the top candidate recommended by merit to the Senate for confirmation as Auditor General for the Federation. They expressed gratitude to President Tinubu in anticipation of his intervention and stated that appointing the most qualified candidate would demonstrate the administration's commitment to probity and transparency in managing the nation's public finances.
In conclusion, NEPSF prayed for the President's wisdom, courage, and strength in administering the country and addressing the issue at hand in the spirit of fairness, justice, and peace.
